Artist Statement

I have previously been one of the 'Leamington Studio Artists' and a member of the National Acrylic Painters Association, when my early work focused on shape and colour in still life, graduating towards painting the built form of the UK landscape in terms of our villages with their traditional cottages.

I have always sought ways to work boldly and loosely, focusing on shape, colour and light as a means of capturing the dynamics of the landscape and coastline and the colour and vitality of the harbour boats. Hence my use of knives for painting with. They allow me to get the effects I want in my work without getting caught up in precise detail and distractions.

As an Associate Member of the Penwith Society of Artists I am constantly looking to develop my knowledge and skills as an artist, predominantly in abstracted forms of landscapes, using colour and form as a means of creating vitality, atmosphere and expression.
